Adjust voluntary contribution default

Default contribution should be set to zero - this is standard in other platforms such as simple tax or Go Fund Me. We have clients refuse to pay online because of the default amount (even though they can change it to zero) because it is not immediately clear to them that they can choose a zero contribution. It’s 2 steps in order to indicate a zero amount. This is obviously strategic on Simply K’s part and it is turning people off of the platform.

Zeffy should make a reasonable ask to the donors about platform fee. Asking like 10% or 14% of the donation amount is just too much. There should be a limit of say 5% max. Otherwise, the key feature/advantage/model of Zeffy will soon turn into disadvantage with the lost purpose.

For contributions to Zeffy, is it possible to have a fixed menu instead of a drop-down menu? In addition, can 10% options be added for $50 to $250 and for those over $250 add the 5% option. We received a lot of negative comments on the pre-chosen option of 15% and the fact that it was not clear that we have any other contribution option and the fact that the contribution amounts are high for amounts over $50.

Agreed. We are creating an event right now and are concerned that the optics of people being asked for an additional 15% - 20% will appear greedy. Some may choose Other and opt for a smaller amount but it is not obvious how to do that. Please change this!!!

when someone purchases a ticket is there a way to make the zeffy donation be zero and let customer put in amount? otherwise we will be refunding cause people do not realize they are doing that, and are going to be upset cause their bill was more than they thought.

As elegant and easy to use Zeffy generally was, we decided not to go with Zeffy b/c our transactions are high ($300) and so a 15% fee looks way too high. And even if we warned our users, some would overlook/rush, accidentally pay the 15%, and then blame us.

I get why they do it and I agree donations to Zeffy are needed to keep this site available to non-profits. I just think the default setting should not be so high. And if it wasn't so high they may be able to collect more donations. Smaller donation amounts but more of them!!! Alot of people see that high number at checkout and are like oh wait and they just remove it, instead of thinking oh hey its only $5 sure Ill keep it in there.

Suggestion: If you have your form embedded in your webpage, put an explanation about the donation above the form.

Debbie I've done this, even making it a requirement that they have to check that they read it. However, I found that most just checked the box and never read it, given the number of complaints from people about the amount Zeffy auto-adds.

We have been using Zeffy for years now and do find that 1 out of 500 donors have a problem finding how to zero out the Zeffy part. Yes, those donors call and complain, but we are saving $8,000 a month by using Zeffy, so we think the few that complain are worth the savings.
You have to click the drop down for the Zeffy portion and click other, then enter zero dollars.
