We want to make sure no donor ever contributes to Zeffy by mistake. At the same time, we need donors to take a moment to understand what our voluntary contribution is and how it helps keep Zeffy 100% free for nonprofits.
It's a real balancing act. If we hide the contribution too much, no one will learn about our model — and the business behind Zeffy simply won't work. But if it creates too much friction in the payment flow, that's a problem too.
We need to find the sweet spot: visible enough to explain what Zeffy is and the impact donors can have, but smooth enough that it doesn't slow down your fundraising.
Here's what we've already tried and improved over the past year:
  • Added an (optional) label in the checkout summary
  • Changed the copy to better explains the impact of contributing to the Zeffy platform
  • Tested different layouts and placements
  • Added self-refund so donors can instantly get their contribution back from their confirmation email — no need to contact you or us
We're always open to new ideas. If you or your donors have suggestions for how the voluntary contribution could be presented differently, we'd love to hear them.
Please share your ideas here — the more specific, the better. Concrete suggestions help us design and test new approaches faster.
